CVE-2023-53513
Last Modified: 11 Jun 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nbd: fix incomplete validation of ioctl arg We tested and found an alarm caused by nbd_ioctl arg without verification. The UBSAN warning calltrace like below: UBSAN: Undefined behaviour in fs/buffer.c:1709:35 signed integer overflow: -9223372036854775808 - 1 cannot be represented in type 'long long int' CPU: 3 PID: 2523 Comm: syz-executor.0 Not tainted 4.19.90 #1 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) Call trace: dump_backtrace+0x0/0x3f0 arch/arm64/kernel/time.c:78 show_stack+0x28/0x38 arch/arm64/kernel/traps.c:158 __dump_stack lib/dump_stack.c:77 [inline] dump_stack+0x170/0x1dc lib/dump_stack.c:118 ubsan_epilogue+0x18/0xb4 lib/ubsan.c:161 handle_overflow+0x188/0x1dc lib/ubsan.c:192 __ubsan_handle_sub_overflow+0x34/0x44 lib/ubsan.c:206 __block_write_full_page+0x94c/0xa20 fs/buffer.c:1709 block_write_full_page+0x1f0/0x280 fs/buffer.c:2934 blkdev_writepage+0x34/0x40 fs/block_dev.c:607 __writepage+0x68/0xe8 mm/page-writeback.c:2305 write_cache_pages+0x44c/0xc70 mm/page-writeback.c:2240 generic_writepages+0xdc/0x148 mm/page-writeback.c:2329 blkdev_writepages+0x2c/0x38 fs/block_dev.c:2114 do_writepages+0xd4/0x250 mm/page-writeback.c:2344 The reason for triggering this warning is __block_write_full_page() -> i_size_read(inode) - 1 overflow. inode->i_size is assigned in __nbd_ioctl() -> nbd_set_size() -> bytesize. We think it is necessary to limit the size of arg to prevent errors. Moreover, __nbd_ioctl() -> nbd_add_socket(), arg will be cast to int. Assuming the value of arg is 0x80000000000000001) (on a 64-bit machine), it will become 1 after the coercion, which will return unexpected results. Fix it by adding checks to prevent passing in too large numbers.

CVE-2025-39905
Last Modified: 14 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: phylink: add lock for serializing concurrent pl->phydev writes with resolver Currently phylink_resolve() protects itself against concurrent phylink_bringup_phy() or phylink_disconnect_phy() calls which modify pl->phydev by relying on pl->state_mutex. The problem is that in phylink_resolve(), pl->state_mutex is in a lock inversion state with pl->phydev->lock. So pl->phydev->lock needs to be acquired prior to pl->state_mutex. But that requires dereferencing pl->phydev in the first place, and without pl->state_mutex, that is racy. Hence the reason for the extra lock. Currently it is redundant, but it will serve a functional purpose once mutex_lock(&phy->lock) will be moved outside of the mutex_lock(&pl->state_mutex) section. Another alternative considered would have been to let phylink_resolve() acquire the rtnl_mutex, which is also held when phylink_bringup_phy() and phylink_disconnect_phy() are called. But since phylink_disconnect_phy() runs under rtnl_lock(), it would deadlock with phylink_resolve() when calling flush_work(&pl->resolve). Additionally, it would have been undesirable because it would have unnecessarily blocked many other call paths as well in the entire kernel, so the smaller-scoped lock was preferred.

CVE-2025-39917
Last Modified: 14 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix out-of-bounds dynptr write in bpf_crypto_crypt Stanislav reported that in bpf_crypto_crypt() the destination dynptr's size is not validated to be at least as large as the source dynptr's size before calling into the crypto backend with 'len = src_len'. This can result in an OOB write when the destination is smaller than the source. Concretely, in mentioned function, psrc and pdst are both linear buffers fetched from each dynptr: psrc = __bpf_dynptr_data(src, src_len); [...] pdst = __bpf_dynptr_data_rw(dst, dst_len); [...] err = decrypt ? ctx->type->decrypt(ctx->tfm, psrc, pdst, src_len, piv) : ctx->type->encrypt(ctx->tfm, psrc, pdst, src_len, piv); The crypto backend expects pdst to be large enough with a src_len length that can be written. Add an additional src_len > dst_len check and bail out if it's the case. Note that these kfuncs are accessible under root privileges only.

Last Modified: 14 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64: kexec: initialize kexec_buf struct in load_other_segments() Patch series "kexec: Fix invalid field access". The kexec_buf structure was previously declared without initialization. commit bf454ec31add ("kexec_file: allow to place kexec_buf randomly") added a field that is always read but not consistently populated by all architectures. This un-initialized field will contain garbage. This is also triggering a UBSAN warning when the uninitialized data was accessed: ------------[ cut here ]------------ UBSAN: invalid-load in ./include/linux/kexec.h:210:10 load of value 252 is not a valid value for type '_Bool' Zero-initializing kexec_buf at declaration ensures all fields are cleanly set, preventing future instances of uninitialized memory being used. An initial fix was already landed for arm64[0], and this patchset fixes the problem on the remaining arm64 code and on riscv, as raised by Mark. Discussions about this problem could be found at[1][2]. Last Modified: 14 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/userfaultfd: fix kmap_local LIFO ordering for CONFIG_HIGHPTE With CONFIG_HIGHPTE on 32-bit ARM, move_pages_pte() maps PTE pages using kmap_local_page(), which requires unmapping in Last-In-First-Out order. The current code maps dst_pte first, then src_pte, but unmaps them in the same order (dst_pte, src_pte), violating the LIFO requirement. This causes the warning in kunmap_local_indexed(): WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 604 at mm/highmem.c:622 kunmap_local_indexed+0x178/0x17c addr \!= __fix_to_virt(FIX_KMAP_BEGIN + idx) Fix this by reversing the unmap order to respect LIFO ordering. This issue follows the same pattern as similar fixes: - commit eca6828403b8 ("crypto: skcipher - fix mismatch between mapping and unmapping order") - commit 8cf57c6df818 ("nilfs2: eliminate staggered calls to kunmap in nilfs_rename") Both of which addressed the same fundamental requirement that kmap_local operations must follow LIFO ordering.

CVE-2025-39928
Last Modified: 30 Jul 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: rtl9300: ensure data length is within supported range Add an explicit check for the xfer length to 'rtl9300_i2c_config_xfer' to ensure the data length isn't within the supported range. In particular a data length of 0 is not supported by the hardware and causes unintended or destructive behaviour. This limitation becomes obvious when looking at the register documentation [1]. 4 bits are reserved for DATA_WIDTH and the value of these 4 bits is used as N + 1, allowing a data length range of 1 <= len <= 16. Affected by this is the SMBus Quick Operation which works with a data length of 0. Passing 0 as the length causes an underflow of the value due to: (len - 1) & 0xf and effectively specifying a transfer length of 16 via the registers. This causes a 16-byte write operation instead of a Quick Write. For example, on SFP modules without write-protected EEPROM this soft-bricks them by overwriting some initial bytes. For completeness, also add a quirk for the zero length. [1] https://svanheule.net/realtek/longan/register/i2c_mst1_ctrl2

CVE-2023-53524
Last Modified: 6 Apr 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: iwlwifi: pcie: Fix integer overflow in iwl_write_to_user_buf An integer overflow occurs in the iwl_write_to_user_buf() function, which is called by the iwl_dbgfs_monitor_data_read() function. static bool iwl_write_to_user_buf(char __user *user_buf, ssize_t count, void *buf, ssize_t *size, ssize_t *bytes_copied) { int buf_size_left = count - *bytes_copied; buf_size_left = buf_size_left - (buf_size_left % sizeof(u32)); if (*size > buf_size_left) *size = buf_size_left; If the user passes a SIZE_MAX value to the "ssize_t count" parameter, the ssize_t count parameter is assigned to "int buf_size_left". Then compare "*size" with "buf_size_left" . Here, "buf_size_left" is a negative number, so "*size" is assigned "buf_size_left" and goes into the third argument of the copy_to_user function, causing a heap overflow. This is not a security vulnerability because iwl_dbgfs_monitor_data_read() is a debugfs operation with 0400 privileges.

CVE-2023-53516
Last Modified: 6 Apr 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: macvlan: add forgotten nla_policy for IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF The previous commit 954d1fa1ac93 ("macvlan: Add netlink attribute for broadcast cutoff") added one additional attribute named IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF to allow broadcast cutfoff. However, it forgot to describe the nla_policy at macvlan_policy (drivers/net/macvlan.c). Hence, this suppose NLA_S32 (4 bytes) integer can be faked as empty (0 bytes) by a malicious user, which could leads to OOB in heap just like CVE-2023-3773. To fix it, this commit just completes the nla_policy description for IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF. This enforces the length check and avoids the potential OOB read.

Last Modified: 6 Apr 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virtio-mmio: don't break lifecycle of vm_dev vm_dev has a separate lifecycle because it has a 'struct device' embedded. Thus, having a release callback for it is correct. Allocating the vm_dev struct with devres totally breaks this protection, though. Instead of waiting for the vm_dev release callback, the memory is freed when the platform_device is removed. Resulting in a use-after-free when finally the callback is to be called. To easily see the problem, compile the kernel with CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE and unbind with sysfs. The fix is easy, don't use devres in this case. Found during my research about object lifetime problems.

CVE-2025-39909
Last Modified: 16 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/damon/lru_sort: avoid divide-by-zero in damon_lru_sort_apply_parameters() Patch series "mm/damon: avoid divide-by-zero in DAMON module's parameters application". DAMON's RECLAIM and LRU_SORT modules perform no validation on user-configured parameters during application, which may lead to division-by-zero errors. Avoid the divide-by-zero by adding validation checks when DAMON modules attempt to apply the parameters. This patch (of 2): During the calculation of 'hot_thres' and 'cold_thres', either 'sample_interval' or 'aggr_interval' is used as the divisor, which may lead to division-by-zero errors. Fix it by directly returning -EINVAL when such a case occurs. Additionally, since 'aggr_interval' is already required to be set no smaller than 'sample_interval' in damon_set_attrs(), only the case where 'sample_interval' is zero needs to be checked.

CVE-2025-39891
Last Modified: 23 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mwifiex: Initialize the chan_stats array to zero The adapter->chan_stats[] array is initialized in mwifiex_init_channel_scan_gap() with vmalloc(), which doesn't zero out memory. The array is filled in mwifiex_update_chan_statistics() and then the user can query the data in mwifiex_cfg80211_dump_survey(). There are two potential issues here. What if the user calls mwifiex_cfg80211_dump_survey() before the data has been filled in. Also the mwifiex_update_chan_statistics() function doesn't necessarily initialize the whole array. Since the array was not initialized at the start that could result in an information leak. Also this array is pretty small. It's a maximum of 900 bytes so it's more appropriate to use kcalloc() instead vmalloc().

CVE-2025-39915
Last Modified: 14 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: phy: transfer phy_config_inband() locking responsibility to phylink Problem description =================== Lockdep reports a possible circular locking dependency (AB/BA) between &pl->state_mutex and &phy->lock, as follows. phylink_resolve() // acquires &pl->state_mutex -> phylink_major_config() -> phy_config_inband() // acquires &pl->phydev->lock whereas all the other call sites where &pl->state_mutex and &pl->phydev->lock have the locking scheme reversed. Everywhere else, &pl->phydev->lock is acquired at the top level, and &pl->state_mutex at the lower level. A clear example is phylink_bringup_phy(). The outlier is the newly introduced phy_config_inband() and the existing lock order is the correct one. To understand why it cannot be the other way around, it is sufficient to consider phylink_phy_change(), phylink's callback from the PHY device's phy->phy_link_change() virtual method, invoked by the PHY state machine. phy_link_up() and phy_link_down(), the (indirect) callers of phylink_phy_change(), are called with &phydev->lock acquired. Then phylink_phy_change() acquires its own &pl->state_mutex, to serialize changes made to its pl->phy_state and pl->link_config. So all other instances of &pl->state_mutex and &phydev->lock must be consistent with this order. Problem impact ============== I think the kernel runs a serious deadlock risk if an existing phylink_resolve() thread, which results in a phy_config_inband() call, is concurrent with a phy_link_up() or phy_link_down() call, which will deadlock on &pl->state_mutex in phylink_phy_change(). Practically speaking, the impact may be limited by the slow speed of the medium auto-negotiation protocol, which makes it unlikely for the current state to still be unresolved when a new one is detected, but I think the problem is there. Nonetheless, the problem was discovered using lockdep. Proposed solution ================= Practically speaking, the phy_config_inband() requirement of having phydev->lock acquired must transfer to the caller (phylink is the only caller). There, it must bubble up until immediately before &pl->state_mutex is acquired, for the cases where that takes place. Solution details, considerations, notes ======================================= This is the phy_config_inband() call graph: sfp_upstream_ops :: connect_phy() | v phylink_sfp_connect_phy() | v phylink_sfp_config_phy() | | sfp_upstream_ops :: module_insert() | | | v | phylink_sfp_module_insert() | | | | sfp_upstream_ops :: module_start() | | | | | v | | phylink_sfp_module_start() | | | | v v | phylink_sfp_config_optical() phylink_start() | | | phylink_resume() v v | | phylink_sfp_set_config() | | | v v v phylink_mac_initial_config() | phylink_resolve() | | phylink_ethtool_ksettings_set() v v v phylink_major_config() | v phy_config_inband() phylink_major_config() caller #1, phylink_mac_initial_config(), does not acquire &pl->state_mutex nor do its callers. It must acquire &pl->phydev->lock prior to calling phylink_major_config(). phylink_major_config() caller #2, phylink_resolve() acquires &pl->state_mutex, thus also needs to acquire &pl->phydev->lock. phylink_major_config() caller #3, phylink_ethtool_ksettings_set(), is completely uninteresting, because it only call ---truncated---

CVE-2023-53461
Last Modified: 16 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring: wait interruptibly for request completions on exit WHen the ring exits, cleanup is done and the final cancelation and waiting on completions is done by io_ring_exit_work. That function is invoked by kworker, which doesn't take any signals. Because of that, it doesn't really matter if we wait for completions in TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE or TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE state. However, it does matter to the hung task detection checker! Normally we expect cancelations and completions to happen rather quickly. Some test cases, however, will exit the ring and park the owning task stopped (eg via SIGSTOP). If the owning task needs to run task_work to complete requests, then io_ring_exit_work won't make any progress until the task is runnable again. Hence io_ring_exit_work can trigger the hung task detection, which is particularly problematic if panic-on-hung-task is enabled. As the ring exit doesn't take signals to begin with, have it wait interruptibly rather than uninterruptibly. io_uring has a separate stuck-exit warning that triggers independently anyway, so we're not really missing anything by making this switch.

Fix it by removing acpi_ut_remove_reference() in acpi_ut_copy_ipackage_to_ipackage(). acpi_ut_copy_ipackage_to_ipackage() is called to copy an internal package object into another internal package object, when it fails, the memory of acpi_operand_object should be freed by the caller.

CVE-2022-50436
Last Modified: 21 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: don't set up encryption key during jbd2 transaction Commit a80f7fcf1867 ("ext4: fixup ext4_fc_track_* functions' signature") extended the scope of the transaction in ext4_unlink() too far, making it include the call to ext4_find_entry(). However, ext4_find_entry() can deadlock when called from within a transaction because it may need to set up the directory's encryption key. Fix this by restoring the transaction to its original scope.

Last Modified: 20 Jan 2026In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kernfs: fix use-after-free in __kernfs_remove Syzkaller managed to trigger concurrent calls to kernfs_remove_by_name_ns() for the same file resulting in a KASAN detected use-after-free. The race occurs when the root node is freed during kernfs_drain(). To prevent this acquire an additional reference for the root of the tree that is removed before calling __kernfs_remove(). Found by syzkaller with the following reproducer (slab_nomerge is required): syz_mount_image$ext4(0x0, &(0x7f0000000100)='./file0\x00', 0x100000, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0) r0 = openat(0xffffffffffffff9c, &(0x7f0000000080)='/proc/self/exe\x00', 0x0, 0x0) close(r0) pipe2(&(0x7f0000000140)={0xffffffffffffffff, <r1=>0xffffffffffffffff}, 0x800) mount$9p_fd(0x0, &(0x7f0000000040)='./file0\x00', &(0x7f00000000c0), 0x408, &(0x7f0000000280)={'trans=fd,', {'rfdno', 0x3d, r0}, 0x2c, {'wfdno', 0x3d, r1}, 0x2c, {[{@cache_loose}, {@mmap}, {@loose}, {@loose}, {@mmap}], [{@mask={'mask', 0x3d, '^MAY_EXEC'}}, {@fsmagic={'fsmagic', 0x3d, 0x10001}}, {@dont_hash}]}}) Sample report: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in kernfs_type include/linux/kernfs.h:335 [inline] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in kernfs_leftmost_descendant fs/kernfs/dir.c:1261 [inline] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in __kernfs_remove.part.0+0x843/0x960 fs/kernfs/dir.c:1369 Read of size 2 at addr ffff8880088807f0 by task syz-executor.2/857 CPU: 0 PID: 857 Comm: syz-executor.2 Not tainted 6.0.0-rc3-00363-g7726d4c3e60b #5 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.15.0-1 04/01/2014 Call Trace: <TASK> __dump_stack lib/dump_stack.c:88 [inline] dump_stack_lvl+0x6e/0x91 lib/dump_stack.c:106 print_address_description mm/kasan/report.c:317 [inline] print_report.cold+0x5e/0x5e5 mm/kasan/report.c:433 kasan_report+0xa3/0x130 mm/kasan/report.c:495 kernfs_type include/linux/kernfs.h:335 [inline] kernfs_leftmost_descendant fs/kernfs/dir.c:1261 [inline] __kernfs_remove.part.0+0x843/0x960 fs/kernfs/dir.c:1369 __kernfs_remove fs/kernfs/dir.c:1356 [inline] kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0x108/0x190 fs/kernfs/dir.c:1589 sysfs_slab_add+0x133/0x1e0 mm/slub.c:5943 __kmem_cache_create+0x3e0/0x550 mm/slub.c:4899 create_cache mm/slab_common.c:229 [inline] kmem_cache_create_usercopy+0x167/0x2a0 mm/slab_common.c:335 p9_client_create+0xd4d/0x1190 net/9p/client.c:993 v9fs_session_init+0x1e6/0x13c0 fs/9p/v9fs.c:408 v9fs_mount+0xb9/0xbd0 fs/9p/vfs_super.c:126 legacy_get_tree+0xf1/0x200 fs/fs_context.c:610 vfs_get_tree+0x85/0x2e0 fs/super.c:1530 do_new_mount fs/namespace.c:3040 [inline] path_mount+0x675/0x1d00 fs/namespace.c:3370 do_mount fs/namespace.c:3383 [inline] __do_sys_mount fs/namespace.c:3591 [inline] __se_sys_mount fs/namespace.c:3568 [inline] __x64_sys_mount+0x282/0x300 fs/namespace.c:3568 do_syscall_x64 arch/x86/entry/common.c:50 [inline] do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 arch/x86/entry/common.c:80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd RIP: 0033:0x7f725f983aed Code: 02 b8 ff ff ff ff c3 66 0f 1f 44 00 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 89 f8 48 89 f7 48 89 d6 48 89 ca 4d 89 c2 4d 89 c8 4c 8b 4c 24 08 0f 05 <48> 3d 01 f0 ff ff 73 01 c3 48 c7 c1 b0 ff ff ff f7 d8 64 89 01 48 RSP: 002b:00007f725f0f7028 EFLAGS: 00000246 ORIG_RAX: 00000000000000a5 RAX: ffffffffffffffda RBX: 00007f725faa3f80 RCX: 00007f725f983aed RDX: 00000000200000c0 RSI: 0000000020000040 RDI: 0000000000000000 RBP: 00007f725f9f419c R08: 0000000020000280 R09: 0000000000000000 R10: 0000000000000408 R11: 0000000000000246 R12: 0000000000000000 R13: 0000000000000006 R14: 00007f725faa3f80 R15: 00007f725f0d7000 </TASK> Allocated by task 855: kasan_save_stack+0x1e/0x40 mm/kasan/common.c:38 kasan_set_track mm/kasan/common.c:45 [inline] set_alloc_info mm/kasan/common.c:437 [inline] __kasan_slab_alloc+0x66/0x80 mm/kasan/common.c:470 kasan_slab_alloc include/linux/kasan.h:224 [inline] slab_post_alloc_hook mm/slab.h:7 ---truncated---
